The London Irish Shirt Polo is inspired by the many great teams from London Irish rugby’s long history.

London Irish Shirt Polo design inspiration

By 1902, the London Irish 1st XV had become a formidable team. They were good enough to defeat all the London clubs they met. Louis Magee was now captain and a true inspiration. And his name and reputation had spread far across the Irish Sea. One report states. `Because of his style of play and his unique skills. He could always attract a crowd to any game in which he took part.’ By then, too, Irish had made the first of what would prove to be several moves.

London Irish Rugby first home Herne Hill

The lease had expired at Herne Hill. And the club tried new accommodation at Stamford Bridge in 1904. Then known as the London Athletic Ground. London’s Queen’s Club was the next stop. Then to Wandsworth Common to share with London Welsh. The constant moving from ground to ground was due to. Either they weren’t paying the rent. Or, the new club needed as good a base as possible. And it’s early committeemen. And officials felt the need to maintain a search for that ideal location. Trying out several different venues seemed as good an idea as any.

London Irish move to Walthamstow then Perry Hill

Season 1905-06 was played at The Uplands, Blackhorse Lane, Walthamstow, in north-east London. On the road out to Epping Forest and Essex. In those days. The London sprawl was comparatively modest. And Walthamstow was pleasant enough. Almost rural venue. But it didn’t satisfy London Irish for very long. By 1907-08, the club had continued the game of musical chairs. By moving back south of the river. To the quaintly named Laurel Brook, Rutland Park, Perry Hill, near Catford. In south-east London. They were to settle there for a period.
